Many small home based businesses and craft people will soon be criminals under the new Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act, which becomes effective on February 10 next year, the new laws will turn micro-businesses into illegal manufacturers of "hazardous substances'.
The law covers hand-knitted, quilted and hand-sewn clothes, wooden toys and other products for children which traditionally have been sold at farmers markets, online and small craft shops produced in small quantities by individuals and families
Worse still, the law will be retroactive so millions of products already on the shelves will have to be tested and certified at a cost of $4,000 per or destroyed.
This while
One can only imagine the vast number of new agencies, courts and police forces that will need to be expanded and or created to deal with this new class of criminal.
